§ 01Issue №1 · Engineering

Software written
to be trusted,
not just shipped.

Bass Bouw is an independent IT studio. We design, build and operate custom software, cloud infrastructure, data platforms and security tooling for organisations that treat technology as a long-term capability rather than a line item.

§ 02The studio

We are a small, senior team of engineers and consultants working end-to-end across the modern software stack.

Bass Bouw exists to help organisations build technology that actually earns its cost of operation. That means readable systems, honest estimates, boring reliability and a documented path from the first sketch to the version running in production three years later. We are not a marketplace, a resource pool or a body shop.

Our practice combines product engineering, platform work, data engineering and information security. We prefer long-running relationships where we can be accountable for outcomes, not only outputs, and where the software we ship is understood by the people who inherit it.

§ 03Practice

Core disciplines

Ten interlocking practices delivered by a single accountable team. Every engagement draws from more than one; none of them stands alone.

  1. 01

    Custom Software Development

Purpose-built applications engineered around a specific business process, from the domain model up.

  2. 02

    Web Application Development

Modern web experiences, admin consoles and internal tooling built for maintainability and speed.

  3. 03

    IT Consulting

Advisory on architecture, sourcing, delivery methodology and technology strategy.

  4. 04

    Cloud Solutions

Design, migration and operation of cloud environments with cost, reliability and security in balance.

  5. 05

    System Integration

Connecting the systems you already own so information flows without friction or duplication.

  6. 06

    Infrastructure Modernisation

Replatforming aging estates onto contemporary, observable, automated foundations.

  7. 07

    Cybersecurity Support

Practical security engineering, hardening, incident response and continuous assurance.

  8. 08

    Data & Analytics Solutions

Warehousing, pipelines, modelling and reporting that turn operational data into decisions.

  9. 09

    Business Process Automation

Removing manual handling from repetitive workflows with reliable, auditable systems.

  10. 10

    Application Maintenance & Support

Long-term care for the systems that run the business, on a predictable cadence.

§ 05Problems

What we are asked to solve.

Legacy systems that block change
Business processes have moved on, but the software beneath them has not. We modernise incrementally without a rewrite-the-world project.
Data trapped in silos
Reporting takes weeks and no two dashboards agree. We consolidate the sources, model the domain, and put trustworthy numbers in front of the people who make decisions.
Manual work that scales linearly with revenue
Growth is being funded by hiring. We replace repetitive handling with automated, auditable systems that scale without new headcount.
Security posture built by accident
Access, secrets and audit trails have grown organically. We put explicit controls and a testable baseline in place.
Infrastructure that surprises the finance team
Cloud bills are unpredictable. We instrument, right-size and redesign for cost you can forecast.
Software nobody wants to touch
Fear of the codebase slows down delivery. We refactor, document and re-establish confidence so the team can move again.
§ 06Method

How we work.

A predictable rhythm from first conversation through years of operation. Each stage produces a written artefact that outlives the meeting where it was decided.

  1. Stage 01

    Discovery

Structured interviews, systems review and a written brief describing the current state, the target state and the delta between them.

  2. Stage 02

    Design

Architecture, domain model and interface studies produced as living documents rather than one-off deliverables.

  3. Stage 03

    Prototype

A narrow but honest slice of the eventual system, running end-to-end, used to validate assumptions before scale-up.

  4. Stage 04

    Build

Short delivery cycles with reviewable increments, tests, documentation and a running system in a real environment throughout.

  5. Stage 05

    Hardening

Load, security, backup and disaster-recovery work done deliberately, not deferred to a launch checklist.

  6. Stage 06

    Operate

Long-term stewardship: observability, patching, incident response, capacity planning and periodic architectural reviews.

§ 08Assurance

Security and reliability are not features we bolt on.

We treat both as continuous properties of the system. Access follows least-privilege by default. Secrets live in managed stores, not in code. Every change moves through automated verification before it reaches production. Recovery is exercised, not assumed.

  • Threat modelling before build
  • Automated dependency and CVE scanning
  • Signed, reproducible builds
  • Encrypted data in transit and at rest
  • Backups with restoration tests
  • Documented incident response runbooks
  • Structured audit logging
  • Quarterly access reviews

§ 10Capabilities

A practical breadth, without pretending to do everything.

The studio covers ten interlocking practices. Every engagement is staffed from that whole surface, but each engagement is scoped to only what the client actually needs. We would rather turn work down than pretend to expertise we do not have.

§ 11Questions

Frequently asked.

What kinds of projects does Bass Bouw take on?
We build custom software, cloud platforms, integration layers, data pipelines and security tooling for organisations that need dependable engineering rather than off-the-shelf solutions.
How does an engagement typically start?
Every engagement begins with a written discovery brief. We map the problem, review the existing landscape, agree on a scope and a milestone plan, then move into delivery in short, reviewable increments.
Do you work with existing internal teams?
Yes. A large share of our work is embedded alongside client engineering, product and operations teams. We adapt to your workflow, ceremonies and tooling rather than imposing ours.
Which industries do you serve?
We work with organisations across finance, logistics, healthcare, professional services, industrial technology, education and public-sector adjacent domains.
How is confidential material handled?
All engagements are covered by written confidentiality terms. Source code, credentials and client data are handled through least-privilege access, audited environments and documented retention rules.
What happens after a project is delivered?
Most clients continue on a maintenance and evolution agreement. We keep the system observable, patched and documented, and we plan the next increment of change on a predictable cadence.
